First edition Buma ROCKS! on Friday 31 May in Nijmegen, the Netherlands
On Friday 31 May of this year the first edition of Buma ROCKS! will take place, an event organized for and by lovers of the louder music genre. In the afternoon a conference is held with a keynote, a talk show and a BBQ. In the evening, showcases by five talented Dutch rock and metal bands are programmed. It will take place in Doornroosje Nijmegen and, not entirely coincidentally, just one day before FortaRock XL in Nijmegen. All information about Buma ROCKS!, registration and ticket sale can be found on our new website: www.bumarocks.nl.
Why Buma ROCKS!? Initiator Frank Helmink explains: “The Dutch music scene excels in niche genres, internationally seen, in specific genres like dance and jazz. As well as in rock and metal. This is where Dutch bands make a difference. Think Epica, Within Temptation and Textures. And we should be proud of it. Buma Cultuur, together with Mojo Concerts and FortaRock, wants to contribute to the international success of this genre with Buma ROCKS! by inviting important international festival directors, agents and bookers to get to know promising of Dutch rock bands, among other things.”
The tantalizing statement “If it ain’t Dutch, it ain’t much” will be brought to the table during the Buma Rocks! talk show, starting at 4:00 p.m. Hosted by Eric Corton, six guests, who together form a cross section of the rock and metal industry, will discuss the state of heavy Holland in the year 2013 and look at the international opportunities of our artists. Take a look at these five fascinating guests of the talk show: international agent Ian Sales (Metallica’s first agent and currently of System of a Down, among others), festival director Bob Schoenmaekers (Graspop, Belgium), vocalist Charlotte Wessels (Delain), band manager Daniel Regan (formerly of Textures, now with Epica) and booker Jeps Salfischberger (formerly of Gorefest, Within Temptation, Green Lizard and After Forever, currently for Delain and Textures, among others). Of course, all attending visitors will have the opportunity to participate in the round table conversation. Following the talk show a fitting BBQ will be organized for all participants, in cooperation with recordlabel Suburban. There will, of course, be sufficient occasions to meet professionals from the genre. We will announce our special guest and presenter of the keynote at a later point.
At 7:00 p.m. the doors will open for the Buma ROCKS! showcase festival. Five bands will present their music in the main auditorium of Doornroosje to both the national and the international music industry. Fans are more than welcome too, of course, just like those people already in Nijmegen because of FortaRock XL. The young dogs Black-Bone, for whom rock ’n’ roll is a way of life; the tight-playing metalcore formation The Charm The Fury and the successful versatile Textures, with their new guitarist, will perform at the Buma ROCKS! stage. From the many applicants and auditions Joe Tal (from the band Illucinoma) was selected and he will be introduced today with a podcast. More information about the bands can be found at www.bumarocks.nl, where the other two acts will soon be added to the programme.
