Record amount of foreign visitors Eurosonic Noorderslag Conference 2013
On the night of Saturday the 12th to Sunday the 13th of January 2013, the 27th edition of Eurosonic Noorderslag came to an end. During four days, 304 promising European acts and bands presented themselves to an audience of 35,000 music lovers and professionals in Groningen. The number of international delegates of the music conference increased with 1,100 to 1,500 compared to last year. Music lovers from over the whole world were able to follow Europe’s leading conference and showcase festival through radio, television and internet.
Festivals
The media praised Eurosonic Noorderslag for it’s strong compilation of the programme, which existed of 204 European and 100 Dutch acts. Despite of the growing international character of Eurosonic Noorderslag, the event anchors to the city of Groningen more and more each year. For the first time the Museum of Groningen was part of the festival venues. Finnish acts, as a part of the Finnish focus, performed at public spaces, like shops and the movie theatre.
On the opening evening on Wednesday January 9th, the tenth anniversary of the European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA Awards) was celebrated with a tv-show hosted by BBC legend Jools Holland.
Media
Music lovers from all over the world were able to discover the newest promising acts through radio, television and Internet. Radio and television channels broadcasting from Eurosonic were among others BBC (UK), DR Musik (Denmark), YLE (Finland), RTBF Pure FM (Belgium), Le Mouv’(France), RUV (Iceland) , RTE (Ireland), Radio Belgrade (Serbia) and WDR (Germany). In the Netherlands NOS, NTR, 3FM, Radio 6, 3voor12 and de Volkskrant presented comprehensive reporting on radio, television and the Internet. The EBBA Awards were broadcast live on YouTube and recorded for TV. The EBBA Awards ceremony can be seen on TV in many European countries this year.
Conference
The growing amount of international delegates was remarkable on the sold out conference. While music remains the heart of the comprehensive programme, the conference addresses more and more themes from other businesses, such as creative policy and new technologies.
